Shahid Kapoor says he initially refused Kabir Singh, wife Mira Rajput made him to do it: ‘She said shut up and do it’
Shahid Kapoor recalled how his wife Mira Rajput pushed him to do Kabir Singh as she believed it would be the perfect film for him.

Shahid Kapoor had one of the biggest hits of his career when he appeared in the 2019 film Kabir Singh but, in a recent interview, Shahid revealed that his first instinct was to say no to the film. It was actually his wife Mira Rajput who pushed him to do the Sandeep Reddy Vanga directorial.
In a chat with Pinkvilla, Shahid revealed that he had been sent Arjun Reddy, the Telugu film starring Vijay Deverakonda, as the makers wanted to remake it in Hindi and wanted to know if Shahid would be keen on dong it. He recalled that he watched the film with Mira and he walked away thinking that this was a “damn cool movie.” “This film has done everything that you are not supposed to do in a movie, and still I am loving this guy. He is doing everything a nice guy is not supposed to do. I thought this is so cool,” he shared.
Shahid said that at the time, his first instinct was to refuse the film. “My first answer was ‘no way I am doing this movie,” he shared and explained his thought process. “The way he (Vijay) personifies this character, I don’t know if I will be able to because people have already seen me in many different characters playing many different roles,” he said as he recalled his conversation with his wife.
He shared that his wife looked at his for five minutes and then said, “She said ‘just shut up and do it. It’s the perfect film for you’.” He then recalled her explanation and said, “‘People love to see you in love stories. People love to see you in messed up characters, this has both, just do it’. Her thinking was so simple and I had overcomplicated it for myself. I guess it was good that I did Kabir Singh.”
Kabir Singh continues to be the biggest hit of Shahid Kapoor’s 20-year-long career. The film was criticised for its misogynistic outlook.
