Shahid Kapoor wondered if dad Pankaj Kapur was going to ‘judge’ him because he wanted to be a ‘hero’: ‘I could make out he was not very happy’

Shahid Kapoor’s mother Neliima Azeem is a renowned dancer and actor. Neliima was a part of Shahid’s debut film Ishq Vishk as well. When asked if Pankaj Kapur indeed judged Shahid on his decision to be a ‘hero’, the actor said, “I hope not.”

The actor said that his father was “very supportive” but there were times when Shahid knew that his father wasn’t overjoyed with his choices. He said, “There were times when I could make out that he was not very happy with the film or the work I did. He would not make it very obvious but you know… With your parents, family, you know…”

Shahid added that whenever Pankaj calls him about one of his films, he knew that “he’s really liked it because he’s real like that. Because he is true to the art. He has to be true to movies and performance so he can’t lie and I love that. I love the fact that he’s real with me about it.”

In an earlier interview, Shahid Kapoor had clarified that his father Pankaj Kapur did not make any calls for him when he was trying to make it in the movies. He told Bollywood Bubble, “Just because my father is Pankaj Kapur doesn’t mean I had it easy, because actually I didn’t even live with him, I lived with my mom. And he’s also a very proud man, he would never (offer to call someone on my behalf). And I was too proud to ask him for any support ever. In fact, I never even brought it up with him, neither did he ask me. It just never came up.”
