Shahid Kapoor accepts he didn’t get offered ‘exciting’ love stories after Kabir Singh: ‘I have been missing doing something light and fun…’
At the trailer launch of the film Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya in Mumbai today, Shahid Kapoor confessed that after doing a series of “rough roles”, he has realised that he's been missing doing something “fun and light".

After doing a series of intense and dark roles, the charming chocolate boy of Bollywood, Shahid Kapoor is now back to doing what he is loved for. He will be seen in a fun dance and song movie Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya, along with Kriti Sanon.
At the trailer launch of the film in Mumbai today, Shahid confessed that after doing a series of “rough roles”, he has realised that he’s been missing doing something “fun and light”.
Shahid Kapoor said, “I have been missing doing something light and fun. But honestly, it is the most difficult genre to crack. I listen to ten scripts a month. People don’t know that, but there is so much to hear. I know people tell me ‘aur picture karo (do more films)’, but it is so difficult to find scripts that you feel that you are going to offer the audience something new. Love stories is the most difficult genre to do. I just feel that this film was answering that question of mine – What is it that you can do new in a love story? When I did Kabir Singh, the character was new for me. The entire journey, the way the entire relationship was, it was shocking, but it was new. Post that, I didn’t hear anything that was exciting. Then popped in this film, and I was like this is it. We have to tell a love story that hasn’t been told before. Will people like it, or not like it, will they accept it, not accept it, that’s the journey as an artiste, as a creative person that you have to take.”
Shahid also said that he doesn’t put Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya into the rom-com genre, but calls it a love story.
The actor said, “I wouldn’t call this a rom-com. Rom-coms are about just a boy and a girl. I think there’s a lot more in this film. We found it very difficult to understand how to mount this film, what to call this film? So ‘an impossible story’ felt right. So I think this is more of a love story. It is also an entertainer and it has a big element of family and a very strong supporting cast. So it is a little wider than that (rom com).”
Shahid Kapoor further shared that while he was waiting for a love story to be offered to him, he was “unsure” about Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya and explained why.
“When I was offered this film, I was unsure about what will I bring new to the genre as it’s been very long since I did something like that. I’ve been doing intense roles. It is a genre that I’ve loved. It’s the genre that has given some of the most iconic films of my career. So I didn’t want it to be just another love story. I felt like this genre needed something new,” he said.
Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya is directed by debutant filmmakers Amit Joshi and Aradhana Sha and backed by Dinesh Vijan’s Maddock Films. Besides Shahid Kapoor and Kriti Sanon, the movie also stars Dharmendra and Dimple Kapadia. It is scheduled to be released in theatres on February 9.
