Shah Rukh Khan shot for Raees action scene despite knee injury, recalls Rahul Dholakia: ‘Chinta mat kar yaar, main kar lunga’
Shah Rukh Khan shot action scenes for Raees despite a bad knee injury, recalled Rahul Dholakia.

The Shah Rukh Khan-starrer Raees didn’t quite live up to commercial expectations, but Shah Rukh left no stone unturned in giving his best to the project. In a recent interview, director Rahul Dholakia shared that Shah Rukh’s knee injury was giving him a lot of trouble when he was shooting action sequences for the film. Rahul said that he was quite impressed by Shah Rukh’s perseverance as he continued to give take after take despite his injury.
Talking to Mashable India, Rahul said, “Shah Rukh had a knee problem. His knee would swell up. And we had to do action. Shah Rukh had a big knee problem and it was extremely painful. I was like, ‘How will you do this?’ He said ‘chinta mat kar yaar, main kar lunga (don’t worry, I will do it)’ and the way he would land his foot. When we did retakes, I would tell the action director ‘let it be’, but Shah Rukh would say, ‘Don’t worry, I will do it yaar’.” Rahul said that Shah Rukh could have easily postponed the shoot, but he did not.
Rahul said that Shah Rukh is an extremely secure actor who encourages those around him. He said, “Shah Rukh makes you feel very comfortable. He is not an insecure actor. He is not an insecure human being also and he is encouraging. He is on your side.”
He also mentioned that he did not want any songs in the film, but for Shah Rukh Khan and producer Ritesh Sidhwani, this wasn’t even an option. “I never liked songs in my film. Doesn’t make sense. In Raees also, I wrote in the screenplay that there should not be a song here. Ritesh and Shah Rukh looked at each other and said ‘Matlab?’ I said they should not be here. They said, ‘Your film won’t last a day’. I said, ‘Why? What do songs have to do with movies?’ They said, ‘You are new to this commercial film experience’,” he recalled.
Raees also starred actor Mahira Khan and Nawazuddin Siddiqui.
