Shah Rukh Khan says he decided to cast Deepika Padukone as his mom in Jawan while shooting Besharam Rang

During the success celebration for Jawan in Mumbai, Shah Rukh Khan shared a comical incident involving Deepika Padukone that left everyone amused. Before Jawan, the actors starred together in Pathaan and featured in the film’s steamy song “Besharam Rang,” which left many in awe of their onscreen chemistry. Ironically, it was during the shooting of this steamy number that Shah Rukh Khan had an unexpected realisation that Deepika could play the role of his mother in Jawan.

Shah Rukh Khan said, “Deepika was doing Besharam Rang. I will not lie, I saw her doing Besharam Rang and I felt she will be good as a mother. So, I asked Pooja (his manager Pooja Dadlani), ‘kya yeh maa ka role karegi?‘ She said, ‘Shah she loves you too much, of course.’ I’ll tell you honestly. Pooja must have gone to her for 2 seconds and immediately she came back saying, ‘ya she will do it’. Deepika said whenever you say I will come and do it.'”

In Jawan, Shah Rukh Khan plays a dual role, portraying Vikram Rathore and his son Azaad. Deepika Padukone made an extended cameo appearance in the film, portraying the role of Vikram Rathore’s wife.

During the event, Deepika also shared her thoughts on her diverse roles in Pathaan and Jawan. She explained, “I am playing a sultry character in one movie, and a mother in the next. I personally didn’t approach it like that. I invested in the vision, in the story. If that meant I play the role of a mother, so be it.”

Jawan continues to shatter box office records, the film has amassed a remarkable worldwide collection of Rs 795.50 crore to date.
