As Rajkumar Hirani’s comedy-drama Dunki, starring Shah Rukh Khan and Taapsee Pannu, is gearing up for its worldwide release on December 21, enthusiasm is high among fans and those associated with the film, given Hirani’s track record of achieving success with even seemingly simple scripts.

Centred around the concept of Donkey Flight, an unconventional method for gaining entry into countries like the United Kingdom, Canada and the United States of America, Dunki also features the seasoned actor Boman Irani in a pivotal role.

During a recent promotional chat featuring Rajkumar Hirani, Shah Rukh Khan and Taapsee Pannu, Khan discussed Irani’s character of an English coach and expressed how it left him impressed to see the actor speak the language the way he did in Dunki.

“It’s ironic. He is our English teacher in the film, yet he has to deliberately speak poorly in English (suggesting that he is not fluent in it). The irony lies in the fact that, among all of us, excluding screenwriter Abhijat Joshi, Boman is the most proficient in English. His knowledge of English is not limited. I think it was very difficult for him to do [this character],” SRK observed.

Boman Irani and Rajkumar Hirani’s partnership traces back to the filmmaker’s first-ever directorial venture, Munna Bhai MBBS. In fact, Irani has appeared in all Hirani films since then — Lage Raho Munna Bhai, 3 Idiots, PK, 3 Idiots and now Dunki.

Bankrolled by Gauri Khan under the banner of Red Chillies Entertainment, along with Jio Studios, Dunki also stars Vicky Kaushal, Vikram Kochhar and Anil Grover in key roles.
