Shah Rukh Khan was very particular about reaching before Amitabh Bachchan for ad shoot, recalls R Balki: ‘He was ready before Amit ji came’

Filmmaker R Balki has opened up about how the famous Everest ad featuring superstars Amitabh Bachchan and Shah Rukh Khan came about. The director also revealed how SRK reached the sets before Big B and added that the stars acted like they were having a reunion. The director said that Everest was considering signing Shah Rukh for another one of their brands, and Balki suggested the idea of having both Shah Rukh and Amitabh in the same ad, despite them never having appeared together before. He asked, “Why not get both of them together in one ad when you’re already paying them?”

Balki suggested that it would be one of the biggest ads and the makers also agreed with his vision. He said in an interview with Radio Nasha, “They met on the day of the shoot. It was so simple, and Shah Rukh was saying, ‘Just make sure that I am there 10 minutes before Amit ji. You hold him up wherever you can. I have to reach 10 minutes before Amit ji, whatever happens.’”

The director said that Shah Rukh was ready to come in as early as 7:30 am if that worked better for Bachchan but when Balki asked what time worked best for him, Shah Rukh said it would be great if he started the day at 1 pm.

Balki added, “I said, ‘Shah Rukh, let’s start at 2. He said, ‘Fantastic. So, I’ll be there at 1:50.’ Shah Rukh was there half an hour before Amit ji. He was ready before Amit ji came in. He was out there, and they were cracking jokes, happy, and each one was directing the other. So it was like one old school reunion. They get along famously together. So it was just like the most fun day I’ve had in an ad shoot. We shot for 12 hours.”

Amitabh and Shah Rukh have previously shared the screen in movies like Mohabbatein, Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham and Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna. Amitabh was recently seen in Ganapath opposite Tiger Shroff and Kriti Sanon. As for SRK, he was recently seen in the blockbuster film Jawan.
