Shah Rukh Khan didn’t like ‘Lungi Dance’ when he first heard it, Honey Singh told him, ‘Take it if you want, else I will…’
The Chennai Express chartbuster Lungi Dance was sung and composed by rapper Honey Singh. It was picturised on Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone.

Rapper Honey Singh, who is presently promoting his new single ‘Naagan’, has always maintained that Bollywood star Shah Rukh Khan helped him during the difficult phase of life. But recently he recalled how he did not care much when Shah Rukh didn’t like the song ‘Lungi Dance’ when he first heard it. He was so confident about the song being a “superhit” that he decided that if SRK won’t use it in Chennai Express, he would release it as a solo number.
In a new interview, Honey Singh shared that originally Shah Rukh wanted him to create a song similar to ‘Angrezi Beat’ as he loved it, but the singer-rapper refused.
He shared with Raj Shamani, “Shah Rukh Khan called me after listening to ‘Angrezi Beat’ and asked me to make a similar song. I said ‘No, tell me what is the vibe of your film’. He narrated his film for 3 hours. I told him I will create something for him and will come back only if the song will be a super hit. I made ‘Lungi Dance’ and he didn’t like it. I told him, ‘Chahiye toh theek hai, nahi chahiye toh main isko single release kar dunga (Take if you want to, else I will release it as a single). This will work.'”
Shah Rukh used the song for Chennai Express and it became a chartbuster. It was picturised on SRK and Deepika Padukone and appeared in the end credits of the comedy-drama. Around the film’s release, he had spoken about the song to PTI. SRK said, “I found it very apt for Rajini sir and wanted to be a part of it as a fan of one of the greatest actors we have. Deepika, on my request, happily agreed to be a part of the song because even she is a huge fan of Rajini sir. The song is fun, happy and completely Rajinikanth Style.”
During the interview, Singh also recalled how he had manifested working with Shah Rukh. He shared how he told singer Alfaaz that one day the ‘Badshah’ of Bollywood will invite him to his house. “In 2012, I, along with Alfaaz, was doing some India tour, and there they had put my huge poster. There was also a poster of a Shah Rukh Khan film, and that poster was smaller than my poster. Alfaaz pointed it out and I told him that a year from now, this man will call us to his house. And, that happened. Alfaaz was quite surprised when this happened,” Singh narrated.
In an interview with Siddharth Kanan, Singh also accepted being arrogant but not supercilious about his success. He shared that even Shah Rukh told him once that he has too much “self respect”.
