Jawan is a true gentleman, actor Lehar Khan says as she talks about her experience of working with superstar Shah Rukh Khan on the latest Atlee blockbuster. In the mass actioner, Lehar Khan plays Kalki, one of the girls who is part of Shah Rukh’s vigilante group.

In an interview with India Today, Lehar opened up about filming with the superstar for Jawan, the film that is breaking every box office record currently. The actor spoke about Jawan’s now-popular metro heist sequence, where her character’s emotional story also unravels.

Lehar said the metro scene was where her first close-up with Shah Rukh happened and recalled it was a shot where she had props in her hand, including a gun and a walkie talkie.

“My collar was uneven, and I was struggling with it. Suddenly, SRK sir just came out of nowhere and he fixed my collar. He picked up all my props. Since it was an emotional scene for me in that shot, he calmed me down completely.

“He could feel that I was a little nervous. He put me at ease with his gentle, warm behaviour. He also appreciated my performance and said, ‘Mashaallah, you’re a very good actor.’ That’s going to stay very close to my heart forever,” she added.

Lehar said her observation of working with Shah Rukh Khan was that he is a “big believer” of the fact that every actor “should find their own way”. While the superstar didn’t give her any “straightforward tips” Lehar said she learnt a lot by obersing him.

“One thing is that he rehearses a lot. He rehearses his part till the time he perfects it. And then he gave his takes. He doesn’t waste many takes. You can see that he is very experienced. He still has that passion in him. The second thing I learnt was to have that liveliness in me as an actor, just like him. I just want to work hard and make my character look different. Something about it should stand out,” she said.
