Satyaprem Ki Katha box office collection Day 1: Kartik Aaryan’s 3rd biggest opening, film earns Rs 9.25 crore

Satyaprem Ki Katha is the sixth-highest opener of the year so far, after Pathaan, Adipurush, Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan, Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar and Bholaa. The Ajay Devgn film, which holds the fifth spot, made Rs 11.20 crore on its first day domestically, but ultimately underperformed.

Kartik’s last release Shehzada, the Hindi remake of the Telugu hit Ala Vaikunthapurramuloo, was a disappointment for the actor. The film could only collect Rs 32.20 crore during its entire theatrical run. JugJugg Jeeyo, however, managed to collect a lifetime sum of Rs 85.03 crore. The film also starred Anil Kapoor, Neetu Kapoor and Varun Dhawan.

Kiara and Kartik’s last film together, Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2, proved to be a hit. 2022 was particularly a bad year for Hindi movies, when only a handful of films made money at the box office. Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 started its box office journey with Rs 14.11 crore, and made Rs 185.92 crore during its theatrical run.

The Indian Express’ Shubhra Gupta gave Satyaprem Ki Katha 2 stars, and wrote in her review, “Somewhere under the overwrought and overcooked plot of Kartik Aaryan-Kiara Advani-starrer is a real film about two people dealing with troubled pasts, but it gets buried under everything else that the movie throws at us.”
