Dalip Tahil says Sanjeev Kumar, Shammi Kapoor were part of the original cast for Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak; recalls how he would introduce Aamir Khan to fans
Dalip Tahil recalled an anecdote about Aamir Khan and Juhi Chawla's 1988 film Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak in a recent interview.

When Aamir Khan and Juhi Chawla made their debut with Mansoor Khan’s Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak in 1988, it was one of the biggest hits of the year. Now, in a recent chat, Dalip Tahil, who played the role of Aamir’s father in the film, revealed that the makers originally wanted to cast Shammi Kapoor and Sanjeev Kumar as Juhi and Aamir’s fathers.
Dalip, in a chat with Rajshri Unplugged, said that director Nasir Hussain had originally planned Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak with Shammi and Sanjeev but when he was told to give up direction due to health reasons, his son Mansoor Khan, who was 21 at the time, took over the project. Dalip shared, “Nasir said, ‘I was going to make this movie with Shammi Kapoor and Sanjeev Kumar, in the dad roles.'” He added that after Mansoor took over the project, he only had one condition, he wanted to recast the two veteran actors.
“Mansoor said that I will make this movie but how will I direct Shammi and Sanjeev? I am 21. How will I direct them? So I will make it on one condition that these two roles are recast,” the actor recalled. He then shared that Nasir thought of casting Dalip in one of the roles after he saw the actor in the television show Buniyaad.
Dalip Tahil shared that while they were shooting for the film, he was the most popular person on the set because of Buniyaad and when people would come for his autograph, he would introduce them to Aamir Khan as the film’s hero and they would take his autograph as well.
Dalip also recalled that after the movie, he worked with Aamir in many other films like Hum Hain Raahi Pyar Ke, Ishq, among others. He said that for Mahesh Bhatt’s Hum Hain Raahi Pyar Ke, Aamir came to his house and demanded that he play the role of Bijlani. Even though Dalip felt like he wouldn’t be able to pull off the role, Aamir was convinced that he was the best man for it.
Dalip Tahil played significant supporting roles in many popular 90s films including Baazigar, Darr, Raja, Gupt among many others.
