Director Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s recent release Animal has divided the audience and film industry with its misogynistic and violent content. While some have enjoyed the hyper-violent film, others have tagged it as misogynistic. Sandeep doesn’t mind the audience’s views, but he is affected by those film industry members still pointing fingers at his cinema.

In an interview with Dainik Bhaskar, Vanga said that he has invested his time and effort in making Animal without disturbing anyone in its production duration of 2.5 years. He feels that certain people in the film industry are privileged and lack common sense.

Artistes like Javed Akhtar, Kangana Ranaut, Konkona Sensharma and more recently Kiran Rao have spoken against Animal for its violence and misogynistic tone.

“I am not reacting to everyone. For those who are within the film industry and still don’t know the deal, then it angers me more. If someone irrelevant says something, I take it lightly because they don’t know anything. Everyone thinks I am retaliating a lot. I am not retaliating a lot. These are few people who don’t have any common sense, who don’t know anything about life, haven’t seen anything, privileged life they have,” Sandeep said.

The director asserts that he made Animal with a lot of hard work and dedication, and it’s not fair to pass judgment over his labour of love.

“It took me 2.5 years to make this film (Animal). Ever since I came to Mumbai and opened my office and sat, from pre-production time till the release, two and a half year’s time, believe it or not, I went out for lunch just once. That too because the person who used to send me lunch was closed that day. So we got down from the office,” Vanga recalled.

He added, “We are working with such dedication, minding our own business and if someone comments on us, then aapko gussa nahi aata? Chup baithoge? To wo hi react kar raha hun main aur kuch nahi (Will you not feel angry? Will you stay quiet? So, I am reacting to that, nothing else).”

Animal stars Ranbir Kapoor, Anil Kapoor, Rashmika Mandanna and Triptii Dimri in the lead roles.
