Salman Khan, Shraddha Kapoor promote Lakshadweep; Akshay Kumar highlights ‘hateful’ comments from Maldives figures: ‘Dignity first’

Superstar Salman Khan, Akshay Kumar, Randeep Hooda, John Abraham and Shraddha Kapoor on Sunday extended their support to encourage tourism in Lakshadweep, days after Prime Minister Narendra Modi promoted the islands and posted his pictures from his recent visit.

On January 4, PM Modi shared images on X from his visit to Lakshadweep islands and wrote how he was “still in awe” of the “stunning beauty” and the “incredible warmth” of its people. In a strongly worded post, Akshay Kumar, who slammed the public figure of Maldives for passing “hateful and racist” comments on Indians. Akshay wrote that despite visiting Maldives several times–he was there even last month during the Christmas holidays– he will call out the behaviour as “dignity first.”

“Came across comments from prominent public figures from Maldives passing hateful and racist comments on Indians. Surprised that they are doing this to a country that sends them the maximum number of tourists. We are good to our neighbors but why should we tolerate such unprovoked hate? I’ve visited the Maldives many times and always praised it, but dignity first. Let us decide to #ExploreIndianIslands and support our own tourism,” he tweeted.


On Sunday, Salman posted that it was “so cool” to see PM Modi in Lakshadweep. “It is so cool to see our Hon PM Narendrabhai Modi at the beautiful clean n stunning beaches of Lakshadweep, and the best part is that yeh hamare India mein hain,” the Tiger 3 star wrote on X.

Post PM Modi’s visit, social media users had also turned his pictures to memes, which Shraddha Kapoor noted as she posted a similar tweet promoting tourism in Lakshadweep.

“All these images and memes making me super FOMO now 😍 Lakshadweep has such pristine beaches and coastlines, thriving local culture, I’m on the verge of booking an impulse chhutti ❤️ This year, why not #ExploreIndianIslands,” she wrote.


John Abraham also shared images from Lakshadweep and wrote, “With the amazing Indian hospitality, the idea of “Atithi Devo Bhava” and a vast marine life to explore. Lakshwadeep is the place to go. #exploreindianislands.” Randeep Hooda, meanwhile, batted for Andaman and Nicobar, “India is so beautiful. Was over awed by the pristine beauty and the rich history of Andaman and Nicobar Islands while shooting the Kalapani chapter of Veer Savarkar’s life .. a must visit. #ExploreIndianIslands.”

On the work front, Akshay Kumar will be next seen in Bade Miyan Chote Miyan, co-starring Tiger Shroff. The Ali Abbas Zafar directorial is set to release during Eid this year and will be the first Akshay Kumar to kick off 2024. Salman, meanwhile, will start his Karan Johar backed actioner The Bull this year and Shraddha will return to the screen with Stree 2.
