Saiyaara Box Office Collection Day 7: The film that is making Gen-Z weep inconsolably in the theatres just hit its first minor snag of its theatrical run. For the first time since its release, Saiyaara made less than Rs 20 crore in a day, and yet the numbers are encouraging enough to suggest another strong weekend haul is around the corner. According to industry tracker Sacnilk, the Mohit Suri film made Rs 18.75 crore net on day 7, bringing the net domestic collection to Rs 172.5 crore. The fact that Saiyaara’s lowest-earning day is almost double or, in some cases, triple what recent films like Kesari 2 or Metro In Dino were averaging, is truly remarkable.

The film maintained a solid occupancy rate throughout the day, with the average coming out at 31.43%. The morning shows began with 19.74% occupancy, and it quickly increased to 33.08%. Evening shows continued the trend with 32.81% occupancy, and the night shows were the most successful with an occupancy rate of 40.08%. The film has now surpassed Aamir Khan’s Sitaare Zameen Par (164.74 cr) and is right on the tail of Ajay Devgn’s Raid 2 (179.3 cr), which it will surpass over the next day. The next on the list would be the multi-starrer Housefull 5 (198.41 cr), and two new faces of the industry earning more than a franchise film that features the biggest stars of the industry is truly the stuff of dreams.

It’s likely that the Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda-starrer is going to hit the Rs 200 crore mark very soon. While Aneet has some acting gigs under her belt, this is Ahaan’s debut, and the new kid on the block has now delivered a more successful debut than Alia Bhatt, Varun Dhawan, and Sidharth Malhotra with Student of the Year (70 cr), and his cousin Ananya Panday with Student of the Year 2. This is the most successful debut since Hrithik Roshan’s Kaho Na Pyaar Hai, The strategies that YRF planned to market this story, its treatment, and its promotion, all of it seems to be working.

The Fantastic Four: First Steps won’t make much of a dent in the collections of the film, and with Son of Sardaar 2 delaying its release to August 1, Saiyaara has an open run. Films by big studios often lose steam after a few days if the story fails to make an impact, even if the cast includes megastars. Saiyaara is proof that word of mouth, an engaging story, and just the right amount of promotion can still do wonders for any film.
