Saif Ali Khan’s sister Soha’s inheritance got her a ‘generator room’ in his Rs 1200 crore ancestral Pataudi Palace: ‘That is mine’
In a recent interview, actor Soha Ali Khan opened up about her inheritance in her brother Saif Ali Khan's Pataudi empire. She revealed that she is aware about primogeniture and Muslim law.

Saif Ali Khan is the owner of the ancestral Pataudi Palace, which he bought back with his own money after his father Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi’s death, as it had been leased out to a hotel chain. But his sister, actor Soha Ali Khan is in charge of the ‘generator room’ at the palace. The said room was converted into a 2-BHK apartment where Sharmila Tagore and Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi used to reside when the hotel chain ran the palace as a luxury resort.
The 2-BHK now belongs to Soha and she pays for its maintenance, even though the rest of the palace is owned by her brother. In a recent interview, she opened up about her understanding of her Pataudi inheritance, as Saif currently owns the Rs 1200 crore mansion.During a chat with Zoom, Soha was asked about growing up in a palace, and if she had any questions about Saif taking the responsibilities, being the male heir. “The things that were relevant to my life were not crowns or thrones. It was just the things that I wanted to do, and never was I told that you want to do this,” she replied.
Revealing how there was no gender bias in their family, she added, “Never was there an expectation that the son will drink milk first and daughters will serve them food before eating themselves. I was never told not to play outside because you will become dark or that girls should behave like this, wear clothes like this. None of that.”
The actor shared that her family has been progressive, despite coming from a conservative cultural background. “Even though my father was from an aristocratic Muslim background, he was a forward thinker and very progressive. I think all of that helped me to just have that confidence, to believe that anything I wanted to do, was possible. That I should just work hard at it. There were no systemic barriers. There was nothing preventing me from thinking,” she said.
Soha Ali Khan continued, “I was aware of the law of primogeniture, I am aware of Muslim law. I am aware now that there’s a lot of things whereby you can circumvent that as well. You can leave a will and say that this is what I want to go to my children in equal.”
Speaking about being responsible for the generator room in the palace, she shared, “I have what was the generator room. But luckily, for a short period for time, there was a hotel that was managing the Pataudi palace. My parents moved into the generator room, converted it into what, I think, is actually a very nice property and now that’s mine.”
