Actor-filmmaker Sachin Pilgaonkar has an experience of 60 years in the film industry- but he is neither tired nor bored. The veteran says key to a long-lasting career is to keep looking at life - and movies - with a restless energy, never letting oneself rest on past laurels. Sachin began his journey when he was just five-year-old in the black-and-white Marathi film Ha Majha Marg Ekla in 1962. In the decade that followed, he went on to feature in 25 films as a child actor before successfully transitioning to films like Geet Gaata Chal, Balika Badhu, Ankhiyon Ke Jharokhon Se and Nadiya Ke Paar. In his career of six decades, Sachin has acted, directed, produced, written and sung songs; where does he go from here? Sachin tells indianexpress.com that his quest to do more will continue, but he isn't the one to hang up his boots. "I don't think any whiskey bottle, or an actor has an expiry date. I say this while giving respect to both, the statement isn't derogatory at all. Because I feel things are here to stay and if they are, let them stay, there is no harm in it. As long as you don't overkill or impose yourself on something. You should not do something that doesn't suit your age. A person like me cannot even think of retirement." The actor is currently gearing up for the release of his latest, City of Dreams season three. The Disney Plus Hotstar political drama show stars Atul Kulkarni, Priya Bapat and Eijaz Khan among others. The veteran said it doesn't happen often when actors are gifted the opportunity to collaborate with strong co-stars, as what happened with City of Dreams. It is a boon. It could have happened that someone we work with isn't as strong, but we register only good actors working with us. Actors have this tendency of looking at good things first." Actors like him, Sachin said, also have another tendency- to be on a hunt for new landmarks. The last time he felt he had achieved his peak when the 2015 Marathi film Katyar Kaljat Ghusali released and brought Sachin wide-spread acclaim. And then came City of Dreams, which for him, pushed the envelope further. On the show, the actor plays politician Jagdish Gaurav. "When I did that Marathi film, I thought it was a game changer for me and nothing more can come my way. But I was wrong, I got City of Dreams, which is a bigger game changer for me. So these landmarks keep coming." Sachin said even though the show is in its third season, he has to treat it as something brad new. "I feel like I have just arrived. Every project is new for me. I have to treat everything as its new, if I think oh this is the third season, it is old now, then everything is gone. I treat it." Produced by Applause Entertainment in association with Kukunoor Movies and directed by Nagesh Kukunoor. City of Dreams season three will release on May 26 on Disney+ Hotstar.
