Richa Chadha’s mother called her in ‘alarm’ when she learnt about her relationship with Ali Fazal: ‘She thought he was married, had two kids’

Richa further shared, “When I first told my mom that I am starting to date this guy, she called me very alarmed. She said ‘I don’t know if you know that he is married and he has two kids’. I was like ‘what?!’ She’s like ‘yeah, he is from Lahore, he is married and he has two kids’. I said ‘no, it’s not that guy’.” Upon meeting Ali Fazal for the first meeting, Richa’s mother had a warm reaction and she recalled it during the chat. “She met him and she said ‘bada sundar hai’,” she recalled with a laugh.

Richa would previously joke about how her extended family would often ask her about her marriage plans and during the podcast, when she was asked about how she got to stop those questions. The actor gave out her mantra with a smile and said, “Just date someone outside your faith. The questions will stop.” Richa said that it was only her extended family that would ask these questions as her parents “never forced” her to get married.

Richa and Ali celebrated their union in 2022 but they actually got married under the Special Marriage Act in 2020 during the pandemic. She recently spoke to News 18 about the same and shared, “We got married under the Special Marriage Act, the family court is right around the corner. And it was super peaceful. And I don’t think it’s out of the ordinary. It happens in society, which is why there is a very big act for it. Of course, I feel like media really makes these kinds of things, it’s actually terrible and is very corrosive for society.”

Richa and Ali will soon be seen in a documentary about their wedding titled RiAlity.
