Sanjay Leela Bhansali‘s much-awaited debut series, Heeramandi, is now streaming on Netflix. While the show opened to mixed reviews from critics and audiences, there has been unanimous praise for the show’s majestic sets, costumes, and jewellery. Now, actor Richa Chadha has revealed that the jewellery worn by all the cast in the show is “all real” and cost crores of rupees.

In an interview with Sucharita Tyagi, Richa said that being a part of the show was a great experience, and added, “Beautiful clothes and beautiful jewellery, all real and…” When she was asked if it was really all genuine and worth crores, Richa further said, “Yes, all of the jewellery is real. If I would wear all of it and run then I could make another film of my own, if I wore all of it cumulatively.”

Not only the jewellery, the lavish costumes worn by the actors also have stories to tell. The costumes are designed by Rimple-Harpreet Narula couture. Known for their bridal wear, the designers, in an interview with indianexpress.com, heaped praises on the director, who is known for his attention for detail and opulent sets. “Bhansali ji always made us a part of the shoots whenever we could travel from Delhi to Mumbai. He wants you to be a part of the entire journey. The final look was everyone’s vision pulled together,” said Rimple, who has also designed costumes for Bhansali’s Padmaavat, starring Deepika Padukone, Shahid Kapoor, and Ranveer Singh.

Heeramandi is a period drama series based on the lives of tawaifs in the red-light district of Heeramandi in Lahore, during the Independence movement against the British Raj. The show also stars Manisha Koirala, Aditi Rao Hydari, Shekhar Suman, Adhyayan Suman, Fardeen Khan, and Farida Jalal, among others.
