Ranveer Allahbadia faces fresh embarrassment as netizens discover controversial joke he cracked on Samay Raina’s show was taken from elsewhere
The latest controversy erupted after YouTuber-podcaster Ranveer Allahbadia made a 'joke' that many found inappropriate, sparking outrage online.

Although comedian Samay Raina is no stranger to controversies — as evidenced by the backlash over his remarks targeting Kusha Kapila’s marriage and divorce on a roast show last year — the uproar surrounding his new YouTube show India’s Got Latent has escalated things to an entirely new level. The latest controversy erupted after YouTuber-podcaster Ranveer Allahbadia made a ‘joke’ that many found inappropriate, sparking outrage online. The backlash quickly spilt into the public domain, prompting formal complaints against the show’s makers, judges and participants.
During an interaction with a contestant on India’s Got Latent, Ranveer, known for his channel BeerBiceps, asked, “Would you rather watch your parents have sex for the rest of your life or join in once to make it stop?” A clip of the exchange soon went viral on social media, drawing widespread condemnation for its perceived tastelessness.
On Monday, Ranveer Allahbadia issued an apology for his remark that even caught the attention of Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. “My comment was not just inappropriate, it was not even funny. Comedy is not my forte. I’m sorry,” he said. His apology came shortly after Fadnavis commented on the controversy, cautioning against the misuse of free speech — though he admitted he had yet to watch the clip himself.
Adding to Ranveer’s embarrassment, netizens soon discovered that the controversial joke wasn’t even his own and that it was lifted from elsewhere without attribution. The joke in question originally appeared in a recent “Truth or Drink” video by comedians Sammy Walsh and Alan Fang on their YouTube channel OG Crew. The joke was originally delivered by Walsh and appeared in the video released two weeks ago, which has amassed over three million views so far.

While Ranveer Allahbadia is already facing backlash for his comments, the revelation that he plagiarised the joke has only intensified criticism. Meanwhile, on Monday, a member of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) sent a letter to YouTube, stating that the commission had “taken cognisance” of the matter and urging the platform to take “urgent action” by removing the India’s Got Latent episode.
