Rakesh Roshan announces retirement from direction: ‘Won’t be directing now but will announce Krrish 4 soon’
Veteran filmmaker Rakesh Roshan announced his retirement from direction. He also revealed that he will announce Krrish 4 soon.

After starting his career as an actor in 1970, Rakesh Roshan gradually shifted towards direction and made several popular films like Khoon Bhari Maang, Karan Arjun, Kaho Naa Pyar Hai, Koi Mil Gaya among many others. In a recent interview, Rakesh said that he is ready to retire as a director. He also said that he will soon be announcing the fourth film of the Krrish franchise.
Talking to Bollywood Hungama, Rakesh said, “I don’t think so I’ll be directing any further. But I’ll surely be announcing Krrish 4 very soon.” The previous films of the franchise – Koi Mil Gaya, Krrish and Krrish 3 – were all directed by Rakesh and starred his son Hrithik Roshan in the lead roles. Krrish 3 released in 2013.
As the filmmaker decides to step away from directing duties, he will keep himself busy as a producer. Rakesh will re-release some of his iconic films – starting with his 1995 hit saga Karan Arjun releasing at the theatres on November 22. “Every film might not work. But surely, Kaho Naa Pyaar Hai is also going to complete 25 years in January (2025). This (Karan Arjun) was also in January, but I couldn’t clash the two films together so I pre-poned this release. And there are many films releasing in January,” Rakesh added in the same interview. He also plans to re-release his 1988 revenge drama Khoon Bhari Maang, featuring Rekha and Kabir Bedi.
In May this year, Hrithik’s Fighter director Siddharth Anand retweeted a fan’s photo of him in the character of Krrish with the caption, “He is coming… #Krrish4”. Along with the tweet, he wrote, “Yup he is,” fuelling speculations about him helming the fourth instalment.
Rakesh started the franchise with the sci-fi film Koi Mil Gaya in 2003. He then turned it into a superhero franchise with Krrish in 2006, and then made Krrish 3 in 2013. Hrithik played the roles of both Rohit and his son Krishna aka Krrish in the movies. Preity Zinta was the lead actor alongside Hrithik in Koi Mil Gaya. After that, Priyanka was cast as the leading lady in the two Krrish instalments. The franchise also has Rekha in the first two installments, Naseeruddin Shah in the second, and Vivek Oberoi and Kangana Ranaut in the third film.
