Varun Dhawan-starrer Baby John released with a lot of hype but the hype ended as soon as the film released and tanked at the box office. Rajpal Yadav, who also starred in the film in a supporting role, shared in a recent interview, that if Baby John wasn’t a remake, it would have been one of the best films of his 25 year career. When asked if Varun was depressed after the film’s failure, Rajpal said that wasn’t the case and added that Varun was a very hardworking actor who had experimented a lot with his movie choices in the last ten years.
In a chat with Bollywood Bubble, Rajpal said that a lot of hard work went into the making of Baby John and it was a “well made film in every way.” “If this wasn’t a remake, then this would have been the most well made film of my 25 year career,” he said and added, “But since Vijay had done it, the audience had already seen it and because it was a remake, it affected the box office of the film.”
When asked if Varun was depressed after the failure of Baby John, Rajpal said no and added, “Varun is such a sweet boy, very hardworking.” Rajpal continued Varun’s praise and added, “Varun has always tried to do something different and his attempts must be appreciated because it’s a big deal to take risks.” He then likened Varun’s risk taking ability to the kind of experiments that Shah Rukh Khan has done in his career and said, “Like the kind of films Shah Rukh has made under his banner, like Paheli, Asoka… He experimented a lot and reached here. Just like that, Varun has also done a lot of experiments.”
Varun Dhawan-starrer Baby John also starred Keerthy Suresh and Wamiqa Gabbi. The film was a remake of Vijay-starrer Theri. After much anticipation, the film opened to Rs 11 crore at the box office, and in the two weeks since its release, the film has made only Rs 38 crore.
