Rajesh Khanna tripped and fell on his lungi, told journalist he had a ‘horse-riding mishap’: Shabana Azmi recalls she almost gave away Kaka’s secret

Shabana also recalled an extremely amusing anecdote from the time she worked with Rajesh Khanna. She recalled how she almost revealed the Anand star’s mishap in front of a journalist. She recalled, “So, Rajesh Khanna and I were working on lots of films. For some reason, he used to like me. One day he came limping on the set and he had hurt himself. A curious journalist came by and asked about his injury.”

She added, “He told him that he injured him while shooting a horse riding scene yesterday and I immediately said, ‘But you were shooting with me the whole day. When did you shoot this horse riding scene?’ He nudged my foot under the table, and when the journalist left, he said, “Why do you always have to be Raja Harishchandra?” I was confused and asked him what he meant. He explained that he’d tripped on his lungi as it wrapped around his foot, causing him to fall down the stairs. He added, ‘She thinks I’m this big star; should I really tell her that?'”

Shabana had worked with Sanjeev Kumar in films like Ram Tere Kitne Nam, Swarg Narak, Devata and more. She starred with Rajesh Khanna in films like Avtaar, Nasihat, Thodisi Bewafaii and more.
