In a move to accelerate urban development, the municipal corporation of Mohali has approved more than 72 development projects worth nearly Rs 38 crore. The decision was taken during a meeting of the Finance and Contracts Committee, chaired by Mayor Amarjit Singh Jeeti Sidhu.
The meeting was also attended by Senior Deputy Mayor Amarik Singh Somal, Commissioner Parminder Pal Singh, Assistant Commissioner Ranjeev Kumar, and Councillor-members Jasbir Singh Manku and Anuradha Anand, among other officials.
Major push for roads across all wards
A large portion of the funds has been allocated for road infrastructure projects. The committee cleared multiple tenders for premix carpeting, recarpeting, kerbs, channels, side tiles, drainage upgrades, and road furniture across several wards.
Mayor Jeeti Sidhu said,“Upgrading Mohali’s roads to international standards is our top priority. Residents will soon be free from broken or incomplete roads.”
Boost for sports and open gym facilities
The committee approved special funds to enhance sports infrastructure. Several parks across Mohali will soon get open-air gyms, yoga sheds, badminton courts and basketball courts. Calling it a step towards promoting fitness, the mayor said the upgraded facilities would strengthen the city’s sports culture and encourage youth participation.
Market upgrades in Phase 10 and Sector 68
For the improvement of commercial areas, around Rs 45 lakh has been approved for flooring, footpath upgrades, lighting and repair works in the markets of Phase 10 and Sector 68.
The municipal corporation will also lay tiles and improve drainage in the back lanes of markets to resolve long-standing issues faced by shopkeepers and visitors.
Safety measures at dumping site
A key project approved includes the installation of a new shallow tubewell and pump system at the dumping site in Industrial Area Phase 8 B to strengthen the fire-control mechanism. Officials have termed the system an urgent necessity.
Strict directives on city sanitation
Mayor Jeeti Sidhu issued strict instructions during the meeting, ordering immediate cleaning of all RMC (resource management centre) points and ensuring daily sanitation of major roads.
He said,“A strong and efficient sanitation system plays the biggest role in enhancing the city’s image. No negligence in this area will be tolerated.”
The approval of projects worth Rs 38 crore is expected to significantly improve Mohali’s infrastructure, ranging from roads and drainage to parks, gyms, and sports spaces.
Long-pending demands across several wards are likely to be fulfilled, with residents expected to witness visible on-ground improvements in the coming months.
