PVR-Inox top boss declares Rajkummar Rao’s Bhool Chuk Maaf a ‘genuine hit’ after theatrical release dispute: ‘Has revived theatres’
Kamal Gianchandani, CEO of PVR INOX Limited, has taken to X to declare the Rajkummar Rao-starrer Bhool Chuk Maaf a 'genuine hit.'

Rajkummar Rao and Wamiqa Gabbi’s Bhool Chuk Maaf, which released on Friday, is picking up pace at the Indian box office. While some sections had written off Maddock Films venture and predicted that it would underperform, the film has proven them wrong. Now, Kamal Gianchandani, Chief Business Planning & Strategy at PVR INOX Limited, has taken to X (formerly Twitter) to declare the movie a “genuine hit.”
Lauding the film, Kamal wrote, “Some wrote off #BhoolChukMaaf citing ‘discount offers’ or ‘lack of appeal’😇 The box office tells a very different story — it’s a genuine HIT💥 May has revived theatres, audiences are back in big numbers, and the big screens are booming all over the country. 🎬🔥.”
PVR and Bhool Chuk Maaf makers’ dispute
The makers of Bhool Chuk Maaf and the theatre giant PVR-Inox had a dispute over the film’s theatrical release. The Rajkummar Rao-starrer was supposed to release on May 9, but due to rising tensions between India and Pakistan following Operation Sindoor, the makers decided to skip theatres and go for a direct OTT release. This led PVR-INOX to file a case against the producers for breach of contract.
However, the theatre chain and the production house behind the film, Dinesh Vijan’s Maddock Films, settled the dispute and announced that the film would release in theatres on May 23. In his previous tweet, Kamal had shared that they were following the theatrical window set by the High Court. He had written, “In light of some misleading chatter around @BhoolChukMaaf theatrical window — to set the record straight, the window has been agreed strictly as per Hon’ble High Court’s directive. This is a clear, one-off exception made under extraordinary circumstances.”
Bhool Chuk Maaf box office performance
Bhool Chuk Maaf released in theatres on Friday, minting Rs 7 crore. The film’s opening box office numbers surpassed those of films like John Abraham’s The Diplomat and Shahid Kapoor’s Devaa. The film saw a 35 percent increase in collections on Saturday, raking in Rs 9.5 crore. Its total domestic collection now stands at Rs 16.5 crore.
