Rajkummar Rao and Wamiqa Gabbi are all set to share screen space in the rom-com Bhool Chuk Maaf. The film revolves around a couple who are all set to take the plunge, however, they get stuck in a time loop and eagerly wait for the D-day to arrive. Ahead of the film’s release, Rajkummar and Wamiqa sat down for a fun chat with SCREEN, where they shared their thoughts on marriage. Wamiqa also opened up about a recurring wedding-day nightmare, while Rajkummar reflected on his own experience of tying the knot with Patralekhaa.

Talking about weddings, Rajkummar said, “This phrase ‘Shaadi Ka laddu jo khaye wo pachtaye aur jo na khaye wo bhi pachtaye’ has been said by someone very unhappy with his marriage. I think everyone should get married if they find the right partner. Don’t hurry. Be very sure about the partner, and don’t get married under pressure.”

Sharing the qualities she is looking for in a partner, Wamiqa said, “He should be an animal lover, take care of his health, and be kind and inspiring. It is very important for you to be inspired by your partner; it keeps the fire going. Also, if someone brings me food without me even saying, I would instantly fall in love with that person.”

Rajkummar Rao also looked back on his wedding, calling it one of the best times of his life. “Everything at my wedding was so good. We had lots of fun. It was one of the best times of my life. Even those who attended the wedding still talk about it. We had forgotten to arrange for a pagdi for me during the pheras, but it was later managed. Farah Ma’am had tied the pagdi for me. We were just partying in the winters of Chandigarh in November,” he said.

Wamiqa, meanwhile, opened up about embracing the idea of marriage for the first time. She said, “This year, I have gotten comfortable with the idea of marriage. All my life, I was never wanting to get married. I don’t know why, but I never had that. Even with my former partners, whenever there were discussions about marriage and kids, I just couldn’t talk about it. Now that I am doing what I wanted to do in my life, I feel secure with my career, I can see myself getting married.”

Wamiqa also shared a recurring dream she has about her wedding — that she runs away on the big day. “For the longest time, I have dreamt about eloping from my wedding, that too at the last minute. Somehow my father always understood when I was telling him, I can’t do it,’ and he would say, ‘I will manage. You go.’ It is kind of a nightmare for me that I ran away on the day of my wedding.”

Lastly, Rajkummar shared his views on celebrities keeping their weddings a private affair. He said, “It’s nice na. Why do you want so many people inside that you don’t get to enjoy. It is a pious, intimate, and personal ceremony where you want only close ones and loved ones. It is not a professional event where you would call the paps.”

Bhool Chuk Maaf releases in theaters on May 9.
