Actor Priyanka Chopra said that normally doesn’t have any difficulty in snapping in and out of her characters, except on one occasion, when she found herself behaving like one of her characters in real life. She said that her mother, Madhu, noticed this and scolded her. In an interview with Film Companion, Priyanka recalled that her mother shot a clandestine video of her, just to show her how her behaviour had changed. Priyanka admitted that being a newcomer in the industry, working alongside established names such as Akshay Kumar and Kareena Kapoor might have had something to do with it.
Asked if she was ‘behaving badly’, she said, “No, because Sonia (her character) didn’t behave badly. But I would walk in slowly, I would talk deliberately.” Priyanka slipped into character, and continued, “I would pick up my coffee up like this, and look at you slowly.” She said, “My mother was like, ‘Hello, koi camera nahi hai yahan pe. Come back home’. That was the only time it happened to me, it was so funny. I was like, ‘What am I doing?’ But I was so young, and I was so nervous about that character. I used to bring it home, I really wanted to figure it out and not get it wrong. And I was working with Kareena and Akshay at the time, they were big movie stars. It was a big step for me. But my mother quickly brought me down to earth. She filmed me once. She took a video of me quietly, and showed it to me, and I was so embarrassed.’
Priyanka will next be seen in the big-budget spy series Citadel, which will be released on Prime Video on April 28. After that, she will star in the romantic comedy Love Again. She is also planning on making her Bollywood comeback with Farhan Akhtar’s road trip drama Jee Le Zaraa, co-starring Katrina Kaif and Alia Bhatt.
