Priyanka Chopra attended the global premiere of her upcoming Prime Video series Citadel in London on Tuesday. She was joined by her husband, actor-singer Nick Jonas, her mother, Madhu, and her cast mates Richard Madden and Stanley Tucci. Around the same time, Priyanka interacted with the press, and spoke about her career choices and becoming a parent for the first time.

In separate interactions with Access Hollywood, Priyanka spoke about her action-packed performance in Citadel, and if she chose the role because she wants her daughter Malti Marie to be inspired by her strength on screen. Priyanka said that she’d ideally want her daughter to develop a relationship with her outside of her roles, but also said that she’d like Malti Marie to be proud of the choices she has made over the years.

Asked if it is important for her that her daughter sees her in these ’empowered’ roles one day, Priyanka said, “I hope that her relationship with me will be outside of my job. And I hope when she sees the trajectory of the choices I’ve made over time, she’s proud of my choices. But I think I would really like her to like me, like I love hanging out with mom. Because I was like that till I became a teenager. Then I did not want to hang out with my mom. But till then, I loved hanging with my parents. And so far, she does too.”

Priyanka mentioned her mother again, when she was asked at the red carpet who she’d like to be her partner in crime if she were a spy, like her character in Citadel. She said that she can’t lie with a straight face, but her mother is talented at embellishing the truth. She also reacted to the show’s executive producer, Joe Russo, describing her as the ‘female Tom Cruise’. Asked how she pulled off the stunts in Citadel, she said, “It’s part of the job, and I want my filmmakers to be as excited as Joe is. You want to go in an you want to deliver. It was a lot of work, it took a lot of discipline and training, but we did it.”

Citadel is a big-budget spy series that will be released on Prime Video on April 28, starting with two episodes. The show reportedly ran into behind-the-scenes trouble, with the budget ballooning to $300 million (Rs 2500 crore), and massive reshoots being conducted under Joe Russo’s supervision. Citadel is designed as a ‘mothership’ series, with international spinoffs in Italy and India already in motion.
