Shah Rukh Khan didn’t charge fees for Pathaan, here’s how he benefited from the actioner
Shah Rukh Khan didn't charge fees for Pathaan but he had a share in the profit earning of the movie.

Shah Rukh Khan got a stunning response from the audience as he made a comeback to the 70mm screens earlier this year with the action-thriller Pathaan. The film had a great run at the theaters, not just in the domestic market but also in the international arena. At the worldwide box office, it earned Rs 1050.3 crore. And, Shah Rukh took home 60 per cent of the total profit as his remuneration for the movie, as per a latest report.
Bollywood Hungama reported that Pathaan was made on a budget of Rs 270 cr, and the production company behind the film, Yash Raj Films, made a total profit of Rs 333 cr. Shah Rukh didn’t charge his regular fees from the producers and instead took a 60 per cent share in the total profit earned by the movie. Therefore, his remuneration from Pathaan came to approximately Rs 200 cr.
The report stated that Pathaan collected Rs 545 crores in India and Rs 396.02 cr overseas. From this, the Indian distributors took Rs 245 cr, and the overseas distributors took a share of Rs 178 cr. The film sold its satellite and digital right for a whopping amount of Rs. 150 cr. Rs. 30 crores came from music rights and through subsidies.
Ahead of its release, Pathaan was considered a big hope for Shah Rukh Khan as well as Hindi cinema that was facing difficulties in recovering from the pandemic. Film producers lost a lot of money due to the failure of films in 2020 and 2021. Apart from a few films like Drishyam 2, Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2, Gangubai Kathiawadi, and The Kashmir Files, not many Hindi movies could leave a mark at the box office.
Pathaan, also starring Deepika Padukone, John Abraham, Ashutosh Rana, and Dimple Kapadia, among others, is a part of YRF’s spy universe. Talking about the box office performance of Pathaan, Deepika Padukone had earlier said, “I don’t think we set out to break records. We set out to make a film with love and the right intentions. We had a good time. Shah Rukh Khan taught me that it’s important to work with people you have a good time with. It was such a lovely atmosphere to work in and that’s what the audience is taking back. Our intention was to bring the audience together and bring them joy.”
Shah Rukh, for whose career, the film came as a life-saving drug added, “The four years that I had… Covid had good and bad parts. I didn’t work. I was with my children. I saw them grow up. My last film had not worked and people had said my movies now won’t work. So, I thought of an alternate career: cooking Italian. In these four days, I’ve forgotten my last four year.”
Shah Rukh Khan will next be seen in Atlee’s Jawan, along with Nayanthara and Vijay Sethupathi.
