Param Sundari box office collection day 6: Sidharth Malhotra, Janhvi Kapoor’s rom-com dumped by audiences as it struggles to hit Rs 40 cr
Param Sundari box office collection day 6: Sidharth Malhotra and Janhvi Kapoor's movie is yet to beat one of Maddock Films' most underwhelming romantic comedies -- Love Aaj Kal, Imtiaz Ali's 2020 directorial starring Kartik Aaryan and Sara Ali Khan.

Dasvi director Tushar Jalota’s maiden theatrical release, Param Sundari, a cross-cultural romantic comedy starring Sidharth Malhotra and Janhvi Kapoor, suffered another dip in its domestic box office earnings on Wednesday. Though the romantic comedy also witnessed a fall on its first Monday (day four), it delivered its lowest-single day earnings on its sixth day of release.
On Wednesday, Param Sundari earned only Rs 2.85 crore, which is a significant decline from its Tuesday (day five) earnings of Rs 4.25 crore. The film collected Rs 7.25 crore, Rs 9.25 crore, and Rs 10.25 crore on Friday (day 1), Saturday (day 2), and Sunday (day 3) respectively. As per industry tracker Sacnilk, the current domestic box office collection of Param Sundari in India stands at Rs 37.1 crore. A day after surpassing Rosshan Andrrews’ cop thriller Deva (Rs 33.97 crore), starring Shahid Kapoor, which also released earlier this year, the film has now surpassed this year’s re-release earnings of fellow rom-com Vinay Sapru and Radhika Rao’s 2016 romantic drama Sanam Teri Kasam (Rs 35.55 crore), starring Harshvardhan Rane.
On Thursday, its seventh day at the box office, Param Sundari will also beat the Hindi dubbed version earnings of S Shankar’s action thriller Game Changer (Rs 37.47 crore), starring Ram Charan and Kiara Advani. Given the current pace, it may also surpass Vishal Furia’s mythological thriller Maa, starring Kajol, which earned Rs 38.63 crore earlier this year.
Param Sundari is backed by Dinesh Vijan’s Maddock Films, which delivered Hindi cinema’s two biggest domestic hits recently — Amar Kaushik’s horror comedy Stree 2, starring Rajkummar Rao and Shraddha Kapoor, last year and Laxman Utekar’s historical action drama Chhaava, starring Vicky Kaushal, earlier this year, both of which crossed the Rs 600 crore mark in India.
Maddock Films’ last romantic comedy, debutant director Karan Sharma’s Bhool Chuk Maaf, starring Rajummar Rao and Wamiqa Gabbi, registered better results than Param Sundari earlier this year. It earned over Rs 40 crore in the first six days at the domestic box office. In fact, the Sidharth and Janhvi-starrer is yet to even beat the domestic earnings of one of Maddock’s most underwhelming rom-coms, Imtiaz Ali’s Love Aaj Kal (2020), starring Kartik Aaryan and Sara Ali Khan, which collected Rs 39.76 crore in India.
Param Sundari has a tall order to live up to as Maddock Films has doled out some memorable romantic comedies like Imtiaz’s 2009 directorial Love Aaj Kal (Rs 66.25 crore), starring Saif Ali Khan and Deepika Padukone, Homi Adajania’s Cocktail (Rs 71.24 crore), Utekar’s Luka Chuppi (Rs 94.09 crore), starring Kartik Aaryan and Kriti Sanon, and Zara Hatke Zara Bachke (Rs 88.35 crore), starring Vicky and Sara, and Shahid and Kriti-starrer Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya (Rs 85.16 crore) last year.
Param Sundari, also starring Sanjay Kapoor, revolves around the blossoming romance between Param (Sidharth), a Punjabi boy, and Sundari (Janhvi), a half-Tamilian, half-Malayali girl from Kerala. Starting this Friday on September 5, it’ll face fresh competition from the action thriller Baaghi 4, starring Tiger Shroff and Sanjay Dutt, and Vivek Agnihotri’s political drama The Bengal Files. Its biggest competitor, however, might be The Conjuring: Last Rites.
