Nana Patekar is known for his candour and unfiltered opinions. In a recent interaction, he shared his thoughts on Ranbir Kapoor’s much-discussed blockbuster film Animal and how he found everyone’s performance in the film exaggerated, except for Anil Kapoor’s.

While promoting his upcoming film Vanvaas, Nana sat down for an interview with Anil Kapoor. During the conversation, the Krantiveer actor revealed his reluctance to watch Animal but admitted that he eventually agreed, motivated to see only Anil’s performance. Nana recalled, “I saw Animal and I called you and said, ‘I watched Anil-mal.’ You are the only person who delivered a restrained performance in the film. Everybody else’s acting was heightened. I initially refused to watch the film, but my friends forced me, saying, ‘Anil has done a great job in it.’ I wasn’t surprised.”

In an earlier press conference in Hyderabad, Anil Kapoor shared that both he and Ranbir Kapoor drew from personal experiences to portray their characters in the film. He also praised Animal’s director, Sandeep Reddy Vanga, for his casting choices, stating, “It was great of Sandeep to cast us as father and son. I knew Ranbir’s dad very closely, and our families have been close for over 60 years now. He’s a part of the family.” Anil further added, “It’s not just because they are Kapoors, but otherwise too, we share a kind of resemblance that works for our characters.”

Animal was one of the most controversial and talked-about films of 2023. Starring Ranbir Kapoor in the lead role, the film followed the story of a son seeking revenge for an attack on his father, played by Anil Kapoor. However, it faced criticism from certain sections of the audience for allegedly glorifying toxic masculinity and violent behaviour.
