No one calls me a superstar: Aamir Khan

Talking about superstardom and superstars, Aamir Khan said, "Superstars are people like Amitabh Bachchan and Rajini sir."

Aamir Khan is undoubtedly a true blue superstar but the actor would like to think otherwise. “No one calls me a superstar,” said Aamir at the teaser launch of Advait Chandan’s debut film, Secret Superstar.

Talking about superstardom and superstars, Aamir said, “Superstars are people like Amitabh Bachchan and Rajini sir. A superstar is someone who everyone loves and whose work everyone enjoys watching. I don’t see myself falling in that category.”

Delving into his role in Secret Superstar, he said, “Just like how you have the tadka in dal, I am the tadka of Secret Superstar. I have a different role in Secret Superstar. I was not convinced intially if I should do a role in the film because the role is totally different. I gave a screen test for it and only then did I feel I should be doing the role. Although when Advait came to me with the screenplay, I was convinced about producing it. ”

Staying on the topic of superstars, Aamir also remarked that Hindi cinema has never been short of female superstars. “Hindi cinema has always had female superstars. Be it Nargisji, Madhubalaji, Waheedaji. All of them have been superstars. Today we have Katrina Kaif and Deepika Padukone who are also superstars. Sridevi, Madhuri Dixit, Juhi Chawla and Kajol are also superstars.”

Aamir said that it was a deliberate ploy to release the teaser of Secret Superstar eight months before its release as people often complained that he (Aamir) is seen on screen only once in two years.

Advait Chandan, who is making his debut as a director with Secret Superstar, called Aamir more than his godfather. “He is more than a godfather to me. He is an entire institution.”
