Neeraj Ghaywan's Homebound selected in Un Certain Regard category at Cannes.Filmmaker Neeraj Ghaywan returns to the Cannes Film Festival with his second feature film Homebound in the Un Certain Regard category a decade after his directorial debut Masaan premiered under the same category there in 2015. Homebound, written and directed by Ghaywan, features Ishaan Khatter, Vishal Jethwa and Janhvi Kapoor.
Sharing the news of Homebound’s official selection, Karan Johar, who has co-produced the movie, called its Cannes selection “a testament to the power of Indian cinema, showcasing our unique stories, talents and perspective to the world”. Khatter wrote in his social media post that he knew the film was “special” and called it his “most challenging part” yet. “This is what dreams are made of. Pure intention, grit, compassion and truth… All led by my friend with a beautiful mind and a deep empathy not many possess — Neeraj Ghaywan,” Khatter wrote.
During Ghaywan’s earlier outing at Cannes, Masaan had won two prestigious awards — the FIPRESCI, International Jury of Film Critics prize, and Promising Future prize under the Un Certain Regard section. This category recognises the first and second films of promising filmmakers.
