Entrepreneur Navya Naveli Nanda, granddaughter of megastar Amitabh Bachchan, says she is puzzled why people are “shocked” to learn that she speaks Hindi.  Navya, daughter of Shweta Bachchan and Nikhil Nanda, said knowing one’s language is the bare minimum for anyone to do.

In an interview with Mashable India, Navya said, “It is a little annoying because people get shocked when I talk in Hindi. They ask me, ‘Oh you know Hindi?!’ This is a very basic thing, that you must know your language, I don’t know why people get shocked.”

Navya had recently opened up about joining her family business — Escorts Group — which excels in the agriculture field in the country. Along with working in her family business, Navya is also an entrepreneur. Navya said that declaring at the age of 21 that one wants to start a business is in itself not a reality for a lot of people. But she was able to do it courtesy the privilege of her family.

“Because I come from a very privileged background, I had the opportunity to do it. My family supported me financially, I had access to a lot of opportunities which people don’t get. So for me to be able to do what I am doing at the age I am doing it is an advantage of where I come from.

“I had utmost gratitude and respect for that. Because I don’t think I would have been able to reach here so soon. I would have still been able to, because I am an ambitious person, but not as fast. Creating an identity has always been very important for me,” she added.

She also runs ‘Project Naveli’, her initiation to bridge the gender gap in India. While Navya is focusing on business, her brother Agastya Nanda is gearing up for his screen debut in The Archies.

The Zoya Akhtar directorial marks the acting debut of Shah Rukh Khan’s daughter Suhana, megastar Amitabh Bachchan’s grandson Agastya and actor Sridevi and film producer Boney Kapoor’s daughter Khushi.
