The news made several headlines with even the actress sharing her excitement on her official X handle. Post that, there had been no updates about the same with many speculating that the film has been shelved. It was supposed to be a trilogy directed by Vishal Furia.
Now, five years later, the actor-producer finally shared an update about the film on the occasion of Makar Sankranti. Sharing a picture of the script of the film, the producer wrote, “Makar Sankranti nand finally…” The script read, “Nagin: An Epic Tale of Love and Sacrifice”. It also mentioned, “Created and developed by Saffron Magicworks.”

While Nikhil shared the glimpse of the script, he didn’t tag Shraddha Kapoor or Vishal Furia. However, speaking to India Today last year the producer had promised to take the film on the floors in 2025. He said, “Finally, the script is ready now. It has taken us three years to script it. We have redone the entire script three times, and now I can say that it’s finally ready.”
Sharing the reason behind backing such subject, Nikhil said, “We get very excited when a spider bites a man, and he becomes Spider-Man. But we kind of look down upon a woman turning into a snake. Give us a chance, and we’ll turn it on its head, and you will see quite a supernatural and different film.”
Although Nikhil’s newest post didn’t have Shraddha’s name mentioned, he had previously shared that she has been their choice for the role since the very beginning.
In the same interview, he had said, “It was decided from the beginning that only Shraddha Kapoor would play Naagin. She was excited. She was the first one to come on board. I approached her first with the idea, and she was sold.”
While the producer often confirmed the association of the actress with the film, a few reports have been sharing that there might be a change in the director of the film with some suggesting the name of Saket Chaudhary. An official announcement is awaited.
Movies with shape-shifting snakes were mostly made in the 70s and 80s with actors like Reena Roy and Sridevi playing the lead roles. These films were massive hits at the box office. Nagin (1976), Nagina (1986), and Nigahen: Nagina part 2 (1989) were major success at the time of their release.
Such movies, however, began to lose its charm over the years with films like Sheshnaag (1990) and Jaani Dushman (2002) failing to attract audience. An attempt to make a similar film was made in 2010 with Mallika Sherawat in the lead role. The film, titled Hisss, failed to work at the box office and opened to extremely poor reviews.
