Mukesh Khanna, who is known for playing the titular role in Shaktimaan and the role of Bheeshm in BR Chopra’s Mahabharat, recently took to his YouTube channel and criticised Om Raut’s Adipurush, starring Prabhas, Saif Ali Khan, Kriti Sanon. Mukesh said that this iteration of Ramayan is “miles away from any of the Ramayan scriptures” and is not even “1/100th of the Ramayan made by Ramanand Sagar.”

Mukesh spoke about Prabhas’ performance as Raghav in the film and said that while “he is a good human being and a good actor”, he has not understood the essence of Ram. “Just showing off your body does not make you Ram. I can say that if he needed some inspiration, he should have looked at Arun Govil’s performance as Ram (in Ramanand Sagar’s Ramayan.)”

The actor spoke at length about Saif Ali Khan’s Lankesh. He said that after there was much uproar about Saif’s look in the film’s first trailer, the filmmaker have gone ahead with the same look and tried to make the character “comedic.” He also questioned Saif’s casting in the film. “Om Raut found Saif Ali Khan to play Ravan? Is there no one better than him in the industry?” he questioned and added, “It looks like Ravan is made from jugaad, and he looks like like a sasta (cheap) smuggler than Ravan.”

Mukesh also criticised the war sequences of the film and said that it looked like a “mohalle ki chindi ladayi“. He said, “In the name of war, they have shown mohalle ki chindi ladayi. Like where they throw punches and hit ecah other with legs,” he said.

He criticised Manoj Muntashir’s dialogues and Om Raut’s interpretation and was particularly upset with how Hanuman was shown in the film. “If Hanuman saw this, he would pick up a mountain and throw it on the film’s team,” he said and added, “Chindigiri parosi gayi hai (Cheap content has been served).

Towards the end, Mukesh said that if he was to give an “award” to the film, he would suggest that the “poori team ko nukkad par 50 degree dhoop mein khada karke jhulsa dena chahiye (The entire team should be made to stand in a corner under 50 degrees sun).”

Speaking about Om Raut’s direction, he said that the director is “too inspired by Hollywood movies.” He questioned how the makers spent “Rs 600 crore on this movie? They should have made a video game. At least, kids would have enjoyed that.”
