Actor Dhanush‘s appearance at the premiere of Mrunal Thakur’s film Son of Sardaar 2 instantly sparked dating rumours. Fans were surprised to see him as a guest at the screening of the Ajay Devgn-Mrunal Thakur comedy-drama. In a recent interview, Mrunal addressed the relationship rumours, describing Dhanush as a “good friend.”

In a viral video, Mrunal is seen hurrying to greet Dhanush and sharing a side hug before the Tamil actor heads to the red carpet to be photographed by the paparazzi. This fuelled gossip that he had attended the premiere of Son of Sardaar 2, especially to cheer for Mrunal. While Dhanush has not addressed the speculation, Mrunal clarified that the Raanjhanaa actor was actually invited by Ajay Devgn.

During a conversation with Only Kollywood, Mrunal Thakur said, “Dhanush is just a good friend to me. I’m aware that a lot of news has been circulating about the two of us being linked together recently. I just found it funny when I saw it. Dhanush attended the Son of Sardaar 2 event. No one should misunderstand that. It was Ajay Devgn who invited him.”

Dhanush was married to filmmaker Aishwarya Rajinikanth, daughter of legendary actor Rajinikanth. The couple separated in 2022 and finalized their divorce in 2024. They have two sons together, Yatra and Linga. Since the split, Mrunal Thakur is the first actor Dhanush has been romantically linked to.

On the professional front, Dhanush has interesting projects in his kitty – Tamil film Idly Kadai, Aanand L. Rai’s Tere Ishk Mein alongside Kriti Sanon, and Vignesh Raja’s directorial D54. On the other hand, Mrunal Thakur will next star in Dacoit: A Love Story. She also has Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai with Varun Dhawan and Pooja Hegde set to hit the theatres in 2026.
