Mouni Roy was just 19 years old when she made her debut in television with Ekta Kapoor’s popular show Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi. The show was at its peak at the time when Mouni’s character was introduced among the next generation of kids on the Star Plus show. In a recent interview, Mouni recalled that she was just walking outside her college in Delhi when someone tapped on her shoulder and asked if she wanted to audition. The audition was for Kyunki…, which was the highest rated television show at the time.

“I thought I’ll do this as a summer job and then go back but that never happened because I honestly fell in love,” she told Mashable India as she spoke about her love for her work. Mouni’s debut was quite hyped and she recalled that she would operate on just 3-4 hours of sleep but loved every bit of it. “For someone who is 19 years old, just imagine to come here… Our working hours used to be very different. We’d be on 3-4 hours of sleep and I still did not mind it,” she said.

Mouni also added that this used to be the norm back in the day and shared that while other actors were juggling multiple shows at the same time, she was just doing this one show for the longest time. Mouni added that it was during this time that she realised how much she loved her work. “I may feel tired, I may feel sick but I never feel like not going on set,” she said.

When asked if Mouni remembered how much she earned in her first pay cheque for Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi, Mouni shared, “It was I think Rs 1.5 lakh.” Mouni added that she was also doing a lot of double shifts, which means that aside from working 12 hours in a day, she would end up shooting for additional hours so by the end of the month, she would have worked for almost 40 12-hour shifts.
