The teaser of the much-anticipated Akshay Kumar-starrer Mission Raniganj has been unveiled. In this upcoming film, Khiladi Kumar takes on the role of Jaswant Singh Gill, the hero behind “India’s first coal mine rescue mission,” where he saved the lives of 65 miners trapped 350 feet underground.

The teaser opens with a glimpse of miners toiling away in the dimly lit coal mine. The monotony of their work is broken when a miner feels a drop of water on his hand. Soon, the whole mine is flooded and workers scramble to save themselves. Enters Akshay, who declares that the trapped miners are counting on him and his team for rescue. The teaser also briefly features a tense moment with Parineeti Chopra watching the rescue operation anxiously outside the coal mine.

Akshay shared the teaser and wrote, ” In 1989, one man showed courage and conviction that saved lives! #MissionRaniganjTeaser out now. Watch the story of Bharat’s true hero with #MissionRaniganj in cinemas on 6th October.”

Mission Raniganj is based on a real-life incident that occurred in Raniganj Coalfields, West Bengal, in 1989. During that time, 64 miners were trapped in a flooded coal mine, and Jaswant Singh Gill risked his life to rescue the miners.

Akshay Kumar had previously shared posters of the film on Instagram to announce the teaser’s release date. However, the posters made headlines for all the wrong reasons. The motion poster faced criticism for what appeared to be shoddy editing, with netizens pointing out the repeated use of the same faces on the poster. X user @Cine_vichaar pointed out the mistake that made headlines. Take a look:

Mission Raniganj is directed by Tinu Suresh Desai. He has earlier worked with Akshay in Rustom (2016). The film is produced by Vashu Bhagnani, Jackky Bhagnani, Deepshikha Deshmukh and Ajay Kapoor. Mission Raniganj also stars Parineeti Chopra, Kumud Mishra, Pavan Malhotra, Ravi Kishan, Varun Badola and Dibyendu Bhattacharya in pivotal roles. It is scheduled to hit theatres on October 6.
