Masti 4 vs 120 Bahadur box office collection Day 1: Vivek Oberoi’s adult comedy takes a marginal lead over Farhan Akhtar’s war film
120 Bahadur Vs Masti 4 box office collection Day 1: Both films released on almost the same number of screens and opened below expectations, with Masti 4 taking a marginal lead.
Both the films have yielded only minimal returns at the ticket window.Box office collection: This Friday saw the release of two films as different as they could be. On one side was 120 Bahadur, a war drama led by Farhan Akhtar and based on the heroic Battle of Rezang La. On the other was Masti 4, the fourth instalment in the long-running adult-comedy franchise that began 21 years ago, headlined by Vivek Oberoi, Riteish Deshmukh and Aftab Shivdasani. According to industry tracker Sacnilk, both films have opened to underwhelming numbers, though Masti 4 has taken a slight lead.
120 Bahadur Day 1 Collection
120 Bahadur collected an estimated Rs 2.35 crore on its opening day, recording an overall occupancy of 8.58%. The film began on a disappointing note in the morning at 4.52% occupancy, increased marginally to 6.58% in the afternoon, remained subdued at 8.53% during the evening shows, and finally showed some improvement at night with 14.7%. Released across approximately 2,725 screens nationwide, it had its highest number of shows in Delhi–NCR with 766, but the region recorded only 8.25% occupancy. Mumbai, which had 456 shows, performed slightly better with 9.5%.
Produced by Excel Entertainment, the film’s performance fell well short of expectations and lagged behind the banner’s recent releases. Siddhant Chaturvedi’s Yudhra opened at Rs 4.5 crore last year, while Fukrey 3 in 2023 enjoyed stronger franchise-driven numbers with Rs 8.82 crore. Even compared to the last major Hindi war film, Sam Bahadur, starring Vicky Kaushal, which collected Rs 6.25 crore on opening day, 120 Bahadur trails significantly.
Masti 4 Day 1 Collection
Meanwhile, Masti 4 fared marginally better, earning Rs 2.5 crore on Day 1 with an average occupancy of 9.98%. The film opened with 5.55% in the morning shows, rose to 9.06% in the afternoon, stayed in the same range at 9.91% in the evening, and peaked at 15.4% during night shows. It was released on approximately 2,857 screens, roughly the same as 120 Bahadur, with Delhi–NCR leading in number of shows at 667, where it recorded 9.75% occupancy. Mumbai, with 461 shows, performed comparatively better with a 12.25% occupancy rate.
However, when placed against its predecessors, the film’s performance remains modest. It has collected the same amount as the third part of the franchise, which released in 2016, while the second part had opened exceptionally well back in 2013 with Rs 12.5 crore. Director Milap Milan Zaveri’s earlier release Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat had also enjoyed a much stronger Rs 9 crore opening. Additionally, the film falls short of the opening figures of other major sequels featuring Riteish Deshmukh, such as Raid 2 (Rs 19.25 crore) and Housefull 5 (Rs 24 crore).
Both films now face intense competition from Ajay Devgn’s De De Pyaar De 2, which has entered its second week and is marching towards the Rs 55 crore mark. Furthermore, the upcoming week will see another major release, the Dhanush–Kriti Sanon starrer Tere Ishq Mein, which may further dent their prospects. The coming weekend and the next week will determine whether 120 Bahadur and Masti 4 can recover from their slow starts or sink further under mounting competition.
