Actor Manoj Bajpayee said that he has regular conversations with political strategist Prashant Kishor, as he spoke about the importance of being politically aware as an artist. In an interview, Bajpayee said that Kishor cracked the social media game before most others, but also expressed his skepticism about the relevance of surveys in a day and age when most voters do not express where their political leanings lie.

Appearing on Ranveer Allahbadia’s podcast, the actor was asked what he feels about Kishor, who also hails from his home state of Bihar. He said, “We speak often. He calls me up and we talk. We discuss Bihar politics, we discuss national politics. He enjoys talking about my career, and film industry politics as well. I have a lot of friends… The life he has lived, he has mastered social media. He is a pioneer, and he ruled the space through his company, with the surveys that they did. But it is my personal belief that today’s voter prefers keeping his politics to himself.”

Bajpayee said that he takes a keen interest in geopolitics as well as domestic politics, because he feels that it is vital to his growth as a person and an actor. “If I don’t understand the difference between the CBI and the NIA, how will I play Srikant Tiwari in The Family Man? If I don’t understand the nuances of caste, how can I do a film like Joram? If I don’t understand class, I will not be able to do justice to a project like Gulmohar,” he said.

He continued, “As long as actors live in the misconception that they don’t need to be educated, they will not be good actors… You have to be intelligent and well-informed… As a Bihari who went to Delhi University, I was always encouraged to read, to read newspapers and be informed about the world.” Bajpayee will soon be seen in the film Bhaiyya Ji. Kishor, on the other hand, began a ‘padyatra’ across Bihar in 2022, and announced that his party would contest state elections in 2025. His heated responses in an interview with journalist Karan Thapar were widely shared on social media recently.
