Filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt is a happy grandfather radiating in the energy of Raha, who he calls “a piece of heaven”. Actor couple Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt in December last year decided to do a face reveal of their one-year-old daughter, something which Mahesh Bhatt says also took him by surprise.

In an interview with Zoom, Mahesh Bhatt, father of Alia, said Raha is the “epicenter” of the house and added that she is the newest star of the family. “So when you go there, they just stay in the background and only she emerges as the enchanting, mesmerising entity.”

During Christmas last year, fans were taken by surprised when Ranbir and Alia posed with their daughter for the first time. After a year of secrecy, the couple introduced their daughter to the media at the Kapoor family’s Christmas lunch.

“I, myself, was quite surprised that they did that. I think they must have felt that OK, now, she’s one year and it’s time for her to be introduced to the world at large, who was very curious to know what their baby looks like. And I think, they did it with tremendous grace and must say the media behaved very decent.”

The filmmaker said Alia and Ranbir had a word with the media before introducing the baby as they “don’t want Raha and them to be hounded”. Mahesh Bhatt credited the paps for understanding the need for their privacy. The filmmaker, however, also noted how comfortable Raha was in front of the cameras and said he was “quite amazed.”

Mahesh Bhatt said Raha, unlike children of previous generation who would be terrified of camera, walked in as if she knew the drill. “I think she carries this in her genes,” he added.

Earlier, Alia had opened up about why the couple wanted to not reveal the daughter’s face and had said, “I don’t want it to seem like I am hiding my daughter. I am proud of her. If the cameras were not rolling right now, I would put a giant image of her on the screen. I love her. I am proud of our baby. But we are new parents. We don’t know how we feel about her face splashed out all over the internet, she’s barely a year old,” she said at the Hindustan Times Leadership Summit.

On the work front, Alia was last seen in Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani while Ranbir headlined Animal, directed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga.
