Loveyapa box office collection day 1: Kushi Kapoor and Junaid Khan’s second film, Loveyapa, finally hit theatres on Friday. While both actors made their debuts with streaming films, Loveyapa marks their first theatrical film. Directed by Advait Chandan, Loveyapa has opened at Rs 1.25 crore India net, according to early estimates by industry tracker Sacnilk. These are incredibly low numbers for a film whose marketing included a reunion of the three Khans – Aamir, Salman and Shah Rukh – at the premiere. There was additional interest in both Junaid and Khushi, who happen to be the children of Aamir Khan and Sridevi, respectively.

The romantic-comedy film witnessed an overall occupancy of 9.56 percent with about 2300 shows across India. This includes 404 shows in Mumbai and 589 shows in the National Capital Region. Apart from Khushi and Junaid, the film also stars Grusha Kapoor, Ashutosh Rana, Tanvika Parlikar, Kiku Sharda, Devishi Mandan, Aaditya Kulshreshth, Nikhil Mehta, Jason Tham, Yusus Khan, Yuktam Kholsa, and Kunj Anand, among others.

Loveyapa is a remake of the 2022 Tamil film Love Today. The film opened to mixed reviews on February 7. Loveyapa was released against Himesh Reshammiya’s Badass Ravikumar, which has opened at Rs 2.75 crore. The film had a total of 2200 shows across India. Remakes have been having a difficult run in theatres recently, with films such as Baby John and Deva drastically under-performing at the box office. While Loveyapa debuted theatrically, a Hindi remake of The Great Indian Kitchen, titled Mrs, was released on ZEE5 on the same day.

Loveyapa follows the story of a young couple who swap their phones for 24 hours on the command of the girl’s suspicious father before their marriage. The Tamil version of the film was directed by Pradeep Ranganathan, and had opened to positive reviews from both the critics and audience. The film, made on a budget of Rs 6 crore, went on to earn Rs 83.55 crore worldwide. Meanwhile, Khushi and Junaid’s remake has been reportedly made on a budget of Rs 60 crore.
