Salman Khan’s last release, Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan tanked at the box office and also failed to impress the critics, trade experts and even fans of Salman. The film could only earn Rs 110.03 cr throughout its run in the theaters. Film trade expert Taran Adarsh believes that though the film ‘recovered its making cost’ and Salman, who is also the producer of the film, made some money too, but the film was a “complete downfall” for the superstar.

Salman, in the past, has delivered films which have zoomed past the Rs 300 cr mark as well (Tiger Zinda Hai, Bajrangi Bhaijaan, Sultan). So, with such a record to his name, Taran said, coming down to just a few crores above Rs 100 cr mark, is a failure for Salman. He told Bollywood Hungama, “When you have films like Bajrangi Bhaijaan and Sultan with Rs 300+ cr at the domestic box office, and this film falls short by leaps and bounds when it does Rs 100+ crore, that’s a complete downfall.”

Taran highlighted the “need for Salman to work with better directors and producers”. Citing the example of hysteria that happened around his cameo in Shah Rukh Khan’s Pathaan, Taran said, “Salman should realise his potential. When he drops his scarf in Pathaan, people go bonkers, there are whistles and claps all around, and not just on single screens, it happened in multiplexes too. So, just imagine the star power of this person. I am sure Salman knows that too.”

But neither the actor is tapping into his star power as much as he could, nor are the film directors and producers he is working with. As per the trade expert, the film directors and producers are missing the sensitive side of Salman, which was loved in Bajrangi Bhaijaan and Sultan. He also pointed out that though Salman can work with the biggest of directors,  but “egos of people are bigger”. Taran said, “People have elephantine egos, aadmi baad mein aata hai humaare yahan, ego pehle aati hai.. (People have big ego).”

The film trade analyst wants Salman to have a ‘reality check’ as he added, “It’s high time they have a reality check and it’s high time they come out of their ivory towers. After Sultan, and Bajrangi Bhaijaan, you pick up films like Radhe, Race 3, and Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan, I mean what? Kya hai ye? (What is this even) Your fans are bound to be dejected.”

After the debacle of Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan, fans of Salman Khan are awaiting the release of his next, Tiger 3, which also features a cameo appearance of Shah Rukh Khan.
