Kesari 2 Box Office Collection Day 12: The historical courtroom drama Kesari 2 has broken the nett India threshold of Rs 70 crore. While its worldwide numbers are yet to be confirmed, Dharma Productions have already said that the film has passed the Rs 100 crore mark. This is the second consecutive film of Akshay Kumar this benchmark, after Sky Force, starring Veer Paharia.

According to industry tracker Sacnilk, the film’s collection at the start of its second Tuesday was Rs 70.65 crore; it earned Rs 2.5 crore on day 13. Sky Force had gone over the Rs 100 crore mark by its second week but struggled in the final leg of its theatrical release, with the nett India collection stalling at Rs 112 crore. Kesari 2, also starring R Madhavan and Ananya Panday, had a slow start at the box office but managed to keep its daily collections at a respectable level.

The average occupancy rate of Kesari 2 in Hindi was 15.57%, with the morning and afternoon shows achieving 7% and 14% occupancy, and the evening and night shows doing better with 16% and 23%. While it has put a dent in the earnings of its competitors, Kesari 2 will likely take a hit from Ajay Devgn’s Raid 2 this Friday.

Meanwhile Sunny Deol’s Jaat and Emraan Hashmi’s Ground Zero are also struggling to bring in big numbers, especially with Kesari 2 persevering on the big screen. Jatt has a nett India collection of Rs 85 crore, but the numbers seemed to have thinned even further with the film earning only Rs 6 crore in its third week. Ground Zero, which is still in the nascent stage of its release, has managed to earn Rs 6.46 crore in its first week, with its weekend numbers suggesting a disappointing turnout.

Kesari 2 is based on the aftermath of the Jallianwala Bagh massacre and the court case that inspired the book The Case that Shook the Nation. Akshay Kumar plays a fictional version of character of C Sankaran Nair, who sued the British Empire in order to prove that the atrocity committed in Amritsar was a planned attack rather than a reaction to a protest.
