Actor Kareena Kapoor Khan has been working in the Hindi film industry since 2000. She has acted in many films, but the two characters she is most associated with are Poo from Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham and Geet of Jab We Met. She often asks her husband, Saif Ali Khan, why can’t the audience remember her for the other roles that she has played on celluloid.

Recently, Kareena’s Jaane Jaan co-actor Vijay Varma asked her how she feels when from her ‘illustrious’ career, she is only recognised as either Poo or Geet. She said that the two roles have restricted the audience’s perspective about her.

“In a way, it has not allowed the audience to know my versatility. But directors have. I still have worked with Vishal Bhardwaj, Govind Nihalani, Mani Ratnam, down to my last film, Laal Singh Chadha, where I tried to prove and break away from this whole pop culture, pretty hot and tempting, the pout or whatever,” said Kareena.

But, she also lamented the fact that despite trying to break out from the image of Poo and Geet, she never succeeds. Kareena quoted the example of her film Chameli, which she did early on in her career. “I experimented with roles right from when I was 21. I did Chameli when I was 21. But people still want to go back to Poo or Geet. Omkara happened in the middle of that. I have won awards for it, and it was a role I feel I nailed. But when you talk about Omkara, you only talk about Langda Tyagi (played by Saif Ali Khan), and you still go back to Poo and Geet,” shared the actor.

Kareena also shared that she often asks Saif why people only associate her with Poo or Geet, and he reasons, “When people look at your face, they go back to, ‘She must be like that (like Poo or Geet) as a person.'” Kareena has started to believe, “Everyone thinks Poo and Geet means Bebo.”

Kareena Kapoor Khan was last seen in the Netflix film Jaane Jaan, along with Vijay Varma and Jaideep Ahlawat. Helmed by Sujoy Ghosh, the film was appreciated by viewers.
