Filmmaker Sudhir Mishra has lauded Kareena Kapoor’s discipline while shooting for his acclaimed drama Chameli, noting that the movie star was absolutely dedicated to her performance even when the cast and crew were pulling off working 12-hour-longshifts. In an interview with Bollywood Bubble, Sudhir Mishra recalled how he made his 2004 film.

“Kareena is hugely talented, I remember the script would come every day with dialogues, those who work in mainstream are used to this,” he said about Chameli which had Kareena playing a sex worker, who befriends an investment banker on a rainy night when his car breaks down.

“She is from Raj Kapoor’s family, she knows how to respect the director and the process. When she would give the shot, I realised that every time I forgot to say cut, she wouldn’t stop either. It is that discipline, that till the director doesn’t cut, I will keep performing. She would then end up doing something that I didn’t ask her to and it is beautiful. There are a lot of shots I have held on to her face, because she is Chameli, the film.”

The filmmaker lauded Kareena’s discipline and called it “outstanding,”. noting how she would patiently stand for lighting and framing of the shots. “To capture rain shots and get that exact focus frame…. In rain, the saree weighs heavier, and she would shoot for 12 hours a day, which is why we finished it in 28 days. The film was released in four months! I won’t recommend it to anyone, but it was a passionate unit which made the film happen,” he added.

Chameli had earned Kareena massive acclaim and was one of her first non-mainstream film after popular films like Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham, Mujhse Dosti Karoge and Main Prem Ki Diwani Hoon.

Sudhir Mishra is currently awaiting the release of SonyLIV show Tanaav season two. Kareena, meanwhile, will also have a release next week. The actor stars in Hansal Mehta’s The Buckingham Murder, in which she plays an investigative officer uncovering the mystery behind a child’s muder.
