Karan Johar posts salty message about people conducting ‘press conferences’ at airport, shares coded note on ‘Nepo’ kids

Filmmaker Karan Johar posted a series of coded messages on Instagram on Friday morning, a day after the Dior fashion show in Mumbai. In his stories, Karan alluded to certain people conducting ‘press conferences’ at airports, and then said that he won’t single out anybody’s look at the Dior show.

In his first Instagram story, Karan wrote, “The airport is a runway, it’s also a press conference, next it may be a trailer launch venue. I subscribe to it all, no complaints, but maybe nice to also catch a flight once in a while.” In another post, he wrote, “I loved so many looks at the Dior show! But mentioning them is perhaps a no.” It was this post that several online sleuths on Reddit tried to decipher. They noticed that Karan had capitalised certain letters in his note, and joining them together reads, “Nepo.” One person commented, “I wish this was him for Anushka (who actually had the best look) but it’s clearly for NEPO.”

While some felt that Karan’s post was a response to the backlash he received after recently praising Anushka Sharma’s fashion, others felt that he was promoting the upcoming Prime Video show Call Me Bae, starring Ananya Panday and produced by him via his Dharmatic Entertaining banner.

This isn’t the first time that Karan has mocked celebrities for making airport appearances even though they have no flights to catch. Recently, Karan’s Bollywood rival, actor Kangana Ranaut, stopped at the Mumbai airport to address the gathered media photographers, and had a chat with them about Priyanka Chopra’s comments about being ‘cornerned’ in Bollywood. It was believed back in the day that Karan was involved in Priyanka being ostracized in the Hindi film industry, although neither Karan nor Priyanka has ever said anything about this. Although Kangana took the opportunity to blame him on Twitter after Priyanka made her comments.
