Kangana Ranaut, who’s currently promoting her latest film, Emergency, which also marks her solo directorial debut, has been vocal about Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent meeting with singer Diljit Dosanjh. Interestingly, Kangana herself has never had the opportunity to meet the Prime Minister, despite being a Member of Parliament, Lok Sabha from Mandi, since June 2024. This development comes after Diljit Dosanjh shared pictures and details of his meeting with PM Modi on social media, calling it a “fantastic start to 2025”. The meeting reportedly included discussions about music and other topics. A video of Modi’s meeting with Diljit went viral, showing the PM giving blessings to the pop star, and tapping his fingers to his music.
When asked about her stand on the meeting, Kangana stated in a podcast with Shubhankar Mishra, “He was the main person. He was in the forefront during the farmers’ protest, to defend them, to defend those people. He was in the forefront defending those jo utpaat macha rahe the (who were creating havoc).”
The conversation took a turn when Kangana was asked about her failed attempts to to meet the Prime Minister. Kangana’s response to this was, “What’s embarrassing about this? I don’t feel the need to be embarrassed about the PM not meeting me but Diljit. For him (the PM) everybody is an equal in the janta.”
Kangana further clarified that she was not disappointed about not meeting the Prime Minister, stating, “I was not disappointed. In fact, I have never met him. Maybe I have met him once and said namaste but never interacted with him.” She also mentioned that many of her friends, including Manoj Muntashir and Anupam Kher, have met the PM and had insightful discussions with him.
When reminded of the PM’s recent meetings with sports persons, their families, and Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt along with the extended Kapoor family on December 10 to personally invite him to the Raj Kapoor Film Festival, Kangana expressed her admiration for the Prime Minister and her desire to interact with him some day. “You know I am a big fan of the Prime Minister and I would want to interact with him and exchange notes with him and have a very insightful discussion about what he thinks about the arts,” she said. As a parliamentarian, Kangana acknowledged the PM’s busy schedule and different stature, making it unrealistic to expect a personal meeting.
Kangana’s Emergency has been released in cinemas today, January 17.
