Kajol shares she was dating someone else when she first met Ajay Devgn, says marriage is a ‘lot of work’: ‘You have to reinvent yourself’

Kajol tied the knot with Ajay Devgn when she was at the top of her career and the two have been married for over 24 years. In a recent interview, Kajol opened up about how her love story with Ajay started as they were dating other people when they first met. The Baazigar actor also spoke about the secret that makes marriages work and said that one needs to “reinvent” themselves and change their perspective as people grow with time.

In a chat with Humans of Bombay, Kajol recalled the time they first met on a film set and shared, “I was going out with somebody, I think he was going out with somebody at that point of time. And we did a film together and we kind of became friends from there.” She continued, “We just started talking, became friends, then eventually I broke up, he broke up and then we became a little more than friends.”

When asked how she realised that Ajay was the one, the actor laughed and said, “I still don’t know whether he’s the one. I think he will say (the same).”

Kajol said that to make any marriage work, one has to work on it every single day and that’s what she continues to do. “It’s got to do with wanting to work on it every day and I think that is something that any married couple will tell you that it is work, it is a hell of a lot of work, it is not easy,” she said.

“You have to reinvent yourself and you have to look at it differently every day. There are new things that you have to accept about each other and learn. People grow, and people change so I am very different from what I was at 21-22. He is very different from what he was at 30. And so, we still find each other a little interesting, I think that’s the biggest thing I can say about us right now,” the actor added.

Kajol and Ajay Devgn are parents to two children – daughter Nysa and son Yug.
