Shah Rukh Khan’s actioner Jawan is doing a blockbuster business in theatres amid largely positive reviews. Directed by Atlee, the film also features Nayanthara, Vijay Sethupathi, Sanya Malhotra, Priyamani, Yogi Babu, Sunil Grover, Simarjeet Singh Nagra, Azzy Bagria, and Manahar Kumar, among others. Deepika Padukone has an extended cameo in the movie.
With Jawan’s trailer, SRK promised to offer an action-packed drama to cinephiles and he has delivered with the film. Shubhra Gupta of Indian Express wrote in her Jawan review, “Combining the in-your-face maximalism of director Atlee, and the come-get-me grizzled slit-eyed sexiness of star Shah Rukh Khan, Jawan is a pop-masala banger.”
The excitement around Jawan’s release is much evident at the box office. Early estimates say Jawan box office collection on day 1 will easily surpass Pathaan’s, making it the biggest opening day earner of Hindi cinema.
As per trade analyst Girish Johar, the 30-odd single-screen cinemas in the Hindi belt, which were shut down in the pandemic, have opened just after looking at the craze around Jawan.
While Jawan stars Shah Rukh, it is not a typical Bollywood film. The movie is infused with the quintessential South Indian masala with Atlee’s direction, Nayanthara as the leading lady and Vijay Sethupathi playing the menacing villain. The north and south marriage that is Jawan has now successfully opened doors for Bollywood in the South, just like SS Rajamouli’s Baahubali opened doors for the South Indian film industry in the Hindi-speaking belt. Viveck Vaswani tweeted that the record-breaking success of Jawan will bother many people but Shah Rukh has nothing to worry. He tweeted, "was telling a friend yesterday that the more successful you are, the more jealousy you beget. #Jawan will obviously not be digested by haters, politically motivated people or rivals in the industry. But does it matter? Where were they 32 years ago that SRK has worry now?"
Filmmaker Sudhir Mishra tweeted that he is happy after seeing the support Shah Rukh Khan and Jawan are getting. He wrote, "Happy that #Jawan is doing well . Also happy about the support Shahrukh is receiving."
Director Atlee was happiest when Telugu star Mahesh Babu praised his film Jawan. Replying to Mahesh, he wrote, "These words coming from you has really made my day, sir. Means a lot to us. Love you sir, see you soon sirrrr."

The makers of Atlee’s Jawan held a special screening of the Shah Rukh Khan-starrer at Yash Raj Studios in Mumbai, on Thursday evening.
